Other Supports

GDCI Student Services

GDCI has two school guidance counsellors who can assist students with a variety of academic, career and personal needs. Appointments can be booked in the Student Services office and counsellors are available throughout the day for drop-in sessions. Whether it be questions about academics, personal concerns or transitions into post secondary options, our counsellors are here to assist you.

We are fortunate to have a variety of community service partners who assist our students on a regular basis. No matter the concern we can find the right support for your student. GDCI has a mental health counsellor who can assist with any pressing or continuing personal concerns. They are available for all students grade 7-12 and work out of GDCI three days a week. Please see your guidance counsellor to obtain a referral to this valuable service.

Huron Perth Centre

We have a Child and Youth Worker who assists students with school related concerns. Similar services can be obtained at the Maitland Valley Medical Centre by doctor referral.

Choices for Change

We have an addictions counsellor who supports students with addiction issues. Addictions may relate to a variety of things including drugs, alcohol and technology. Our addictions counsellor is at our school on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students can self-refer or go through our guidance counsellors.

Huron Perth Public Health

Our public health nurse who can assist students with many mental and physical health issues. The nurse can also assist with sexual health concerns. Our health nurse is at the school on Tuesdays from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. Students can book appointments or use the drop in service. To contact the health nurse, email [email protected].

Safe Homes for Youth

Safe Homes is a service for students between the ages of 16 – 18. It can be accessed to provide temporary or long term shelter for youth in crisis. Students should see a guidance counsellor if they believe that they would benefit from this service.

Crisis Intervention Program is a 24 hour service which is available to youth and adults in crisis. We strongly recommend students and/or parents to call the Crisis line in time of need at 1-888-829-7484.

Kids Help Phone is a 24 hour help-line for students. They can be accessed by phone at 1-800-668-6868 or online at KidsHelpPhone.ca
